ABOUT PLATE 38
The Story of Chef Humphreys’ New American Kitchen and Bar
MEET THE CHEF
Chef-Owner Robert Humphreys graduated from The Culinary Institute and began his career at top-rated eateries including Joachim Spilchal’s flagship restaurant Patina in Los Angeles. He went on to expand his culinary vision while working as Head Chef at Wabi Sabi in Venice and Siena Ristorante in Old Town Pasadena. In 2010, Chef Humphreys opened Plate 38 based on his love of quality farm-to-table food. A casual but classy bistro that offers New American cuisine as well as extraordinary delicacies that so many customers have come to love. He changes the specials everyday and designs tasting menus that fascinate the most critical LA foodies using seasonal and unusual ingredients; such as truffles or foie gras. He works tirelessly to bring the best wines and local brews to Pasadena locals; while staying on top of what’s new and exciting in the culinary world. Chef Humphreys’ loves to entertain and keep his guests happy which motivated him to bring various food and wine events to Plate 38 throughout the month. Voted Best Chef of Pasadena, Chef Humphreys has elevated the level of cuisine in the Los Angeles area.

SHOP SMALL, BUY LOCAL
We like to help contribute to our neighbors success by relying on local products and services. Our vendors supply Plate 38 with the best ingredients for the great food we provide our guests. It is an honor and privilege to use quality ingredients, products, and services from Pasadena businesses and California farms. We hope you follow us in our mission to “buy local” and shop at the local businesses mentioned on our website.
Just as we pride ourselves in serving great food to the Pasadena community, so do these local businesses in the specialities they supply. Check out our blog featuring local live music, wine, beer, and food event collaborations with local businesses, non-profits, and community farms.
